Kata Beach Phuket is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket; the beach is located just south of beautiful Karon Beach. I took this video on the northern end.

I love everything about this beach and spend quite a bit of time at it, I live up on the northern end of the beach, if you love to walk, run and swim Kata beach is the place to go, and even during the high season you wont feel crowded, the beach is much more laid back than Patong and the scenery is very gorgeous.

I have two of my distance swim routes on this beach; the PU island swim and I also like to swim from the south and make my way to the north end, both swim routes really give you a good swim workout, just be careful on some of the rip currents you will see the flags on the beach, they are located near Club med Resort beach area, so just be cautious when swimming in that area.

The swim itself is easy but I always do it with surface swim fins, neoprene top and swim goggles. I start this swim on the northern finish of Kata beach and swim around the Island in a counterclockwise direction staying up 10 meters off the island as I make my way around it.

The PU Island swim is my favorite distance swim in Phuket; I have several locations throughout the Island but this distance swim I am liking best. I am liking to swim PU Island about 2 times per week, most of the time I do it early in the morning, usually before 1000 AM and during high tide.

The swim takes me about 45-50 minutes using my surface fins. After spending years as a US Navy SEAL I have experienced all sort of beach and water conditions all over the world and have used some type of fins in all my water borne operations, so my recommendation is if you are going to do any distance swims in Phuket get yourself some fins, they can be a life saver in current conditions.
